Conditions for admission to Master’s program

Entry conditions

According to the Model Rules for Admission to Education in Educational Organizations Implementing Postgraduate Education Programs, approved by Order No. 600 of the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated October 31, 2018, accepting applications submitted to Master’s program, doctoral studies, residency in universities and research organizations is carried out by the selection committees of universities and research organizations, as well as through the information system.

The deadline for receiving applications from July 3 to July 25 of the calendar year.

Entrance exams in foreign languages, specialty and comprehensive testing are held from 8 to 16 August of the calendar year, enrollment – until August 28 of the calendar year.

Those entering Master’s program should pass:
● to Master’s program with Kazakh or Russian language of instruction – comprehensive testing consisting of a test in a foreign language (English, French, German optional), a test on the profile of a group of educational programs, a test for determining readiness for learning;

  • to Master’s program with the English language of instruction – comprehensive testing, consisting of a test on the profile of a group of educational programs in English and a test for determining readiness for learning in English;

Foreign language test (English / German / French) in health and social welfare (medicine) for entering Master’s program and residency consists of 3 blocks, 100 tasks with the choice of one correct answer.

Testing time is 125 minutes.

Block I – Listening. The number of test tasks is 32. Completing time is 45 minutes.

This block includes listening to 4 texts and completing of 8 test tasks for each text. Each audio material is recorded twice with a pause of 1 minute. After listening to each text, time is given for the completing of the proposed test tasks.

Block II – Lexical and grammatical test. The number of test tasks is 32. Completing time is 30 minutes.

Block III – Reading. The number of test tasks is 36. Completing time is 50 minutes.

This unit includes 3 texts and the implementation of 12 test tasks for each text.

Enrollment of persons to Master’s program is carried out according to the results of comprehensive testing in accordance with the scale of the 150-point grading system for integrated testing to Master’s program with the Kazakh and Russian language of instruction in accordance with Appendix 1: at least 75 points, including a foreign language – at least 25 points, according to the profile of a group of educational programs: with a choice of one correct answer – at least 15 points, with a choice of one or several correct answers – at least 20 points, according to a test for determining readiness for learning – at least 1 5 points.

Enrollment of persons with an English-language Master’s program is carried out according to the results of comprehensive testing in accordance with the scale of the 100-point grading system for comprehensive testing with an English-language Master’s program in accordance with Appendix 2: at least 25 points, including the readiness test – at least 7 points, according to the profile of a group of educational programs: with a choice of one correct answer – at least 8 points, with a choice of one or several correct answers – at least 10 points.

  1. Discounts available for admission to the University of Almaty on educational Master’s programs.

4.1 “Insiders” discount

Can be provided to teachers, staff and graduates of the University of Almaty, entering the Master’s program of the University of Almaty.

Description:

– A discount of 20% of the full tuition fee is provided to graduates of University of Almaty who decide to continue their studies in the Master’s programs at University of Almaty.

– The discount is valid for the entire period of study, subject to timely payment of tuition.

Documents for enrollment

Acceptance of documents for applicants to Master’s program is held from July 3 to July 25 of this year. The following documents are submitted to the university admissions office:

  1. application addressed to the rector;
  2. a notarized copy of the document on higher education;
  3. a copy of the certificate of taking a test in a foreign language (English, German, French) according to the programs (if available);
  4. personal sheet on personnel records and a document confirming labor activity (for persons having work experience) (if available);
  5. six photos (3 x 4 of size);
  6. medical certificate, form 086-У (with photofluorographic examination);
  7. copy of ID;
  8. list of scientific and methodological works (if available);
  9. letter, guaranteeing the conclusion of the contract and payment of expenses for applicants on a fee basis;
  10. military service registration certificate (for males);
  11. list of documents.

* The originals must pe provided together with copies of the documents for verification. After the verification, the originals are returned.
